Posted on February 10, 2022 | by Marianne McKelvie

RLCGA members please be aware that there are vacancies for membership of the SVLGA West Division. So if you were born in or before 1972 and have a handicap index of 28 or less then why not consider joining the West Vets, where there are already quite a number of RLCGA members.

The West Vets organise three annual stroke play competitions with scratch and handicap prizes being awarded. The Championship (scratch and match play) and a handicap match play competition are played in May each year. There are also three team matches against other Divisions with teams being selected from various handicap categories.

Gillian Kyle loses at the 20th Hole in the Semi Finals of the Scottish Seniors at Aberdour

Posted on June 26, 2021 | by Carol

Karen Ferguson-Snedden won the Scottish Senior Women’s Match Play Championship for the first time yesterday (Friday 25th June) when she beat Iona McKean 2 & 1 in a tense final at a windswept Aberdour.

The Mortonhall player needed to go all the way to the 20th hole before beating RLCGA’s Gillian Kyle (East Renfrewshire) in the semi-final and in the final she had to work almost as hard against an opponent who was frequently outgunned off the tee but never more than a hole behind before losing the 17th green.

Gillian Kyle reaches the Semi Final stages of the Scottish Seniors Match play Championship

Posted on June 24, 2021 | by Carol

Renfrewshire’s Gillian Kyle (East Renfrewshire) needed just 26 holes to beat Harburn’s Jennifer Bryans 5 & 4 and Baberton’s Wendy Nicholson 8 & 6 to move on to a semi-final clash against Mortonhall’s Karen Ferguson-Snedden.

“I’m sharing a house with Elaine Moffat ( the No 1 seed) so we’re hoping to face each other in the final. That’s the dream anyway but there’s a lot to do to get there,” said Kyle.

“I live in Glasgow so we’ve had restrictions. I’ve had to self-isolate because a friend had tested positive for Covid. I missed all my County matches and was feeling a bit sorry for myself so I’m very pleased to get this far.

“It’s great to get back to competing after such a long break,” she added. “You just feel so grateful to be able to get back playing at your club but this is another level and you really have to concentrate.”
