RESULTS OF 2021 TRI-AM STABLEFORD at Gleddoch Golf Course

Posted on September 15, 2021 | by Fiona Armour

There was only one Scottish word to perfectly described yesterday morning’s weather at Gleddoch and that was ‘dreich’. The River Clyde was shrouded in mist but this did not deter the brave souls that headed into the hills and their endeavours were eventually rewarded with the sun making a brief appearance so they could enjoy the magnificent views from the course.

View from 17th Tee

This year 13 teams competed in the Tri-am Stableford with two scores counting at each hole and the winners with a best inward half of 71 points was the following team (pictured left to right);

Marilyn Muir

Rena Simpson

Margaret Adams

narrowly pipping;

Chris Fowler

Sandra Macdougall

June Irons

Third placed team with 69 points was;

Anabel Kane

Alison Macnab

Vicky Rennie

Thanks to Gleddoch for hosting the competition, their bar and catering staff and the ballot official Marianne McKelvie assisted by June Lockhart.

This concludes the main 2021 County competitions, however there is still the Winter Foursomes 2021 – 22 to come and booking for this will open very shortly so watch this space.

Finals Day at Old Ranfurly

Posted on September 13, 2021 | by Carol

Sunday (12 September) saw Finals Day at Old Ranfurly Golf Club.

2019/20 Winter Foursomes Final

The long awaited 2019/20 County Winter Foursomes Final was eventually played having been postponed due to the pandemic, self-isolating and travel restrictions. The finalists were Lesley Robertson/Allison Murray (both Ranfurly Castle GC) and Alyson McGinnigle/Carol McNally (both Williamwood GC). Vice Captain Donna Jackson refereed the match.

Lesley and Allison went 3 up after 3 after having a gross birdie 3 (net eagle 2) at the third hole. Carol and Alyson pulled one back at the fifth but Lesley and Allison kept up the pressure and remained 3 up at the turn.

The next five holes remained a tight contest with Lesley and Allison eventually going 4 up after 14 and close the match out on the 15th hole.

Junior Summer Box League : Semi-Finals/Final (Orr Quaich)

The four winners of the Junior Summer Box League were also set to play the semi-finals and final yesterday. Our President (Pearl Orr) donated the trophy for this final and, in future, this competition will be known as the Orr Quaich.

Unfortunately, due to unforseen circumstances only one semi-final was played and this was between Lucie Barclay (Kilmacolm GC) and Amelia Cochran (Kilmacolm GC) with Lucie eventually winning on the 16th to go through to the final. Katie Dunne (Paisley GC) was the other finalist having been given a bye due to a late withdrawal.

The final between Lucie and Katie was a great match with Lucie going 3 up after 3 and maintaining this lead for a good part of the game. Katie kept patient and slowly pegged back Lucie’s lead to be only 1 down after 13 holes. Lucie then went on to win the 14th but Katie kept faith in herself and eventually won the match on the 18th hole.

The standard of golf, sportsmanship and appreciation of each other’s game shown by both girls was amazing and a joy to watch.

My thanks go to Old Ranfurly Golf Club for courtesy of the course and their excellent hospitality, Pearl Orr for donation of the Orr Quaich, Donna Jackson for refereeing the 2019/20 Winter Foursomes Final and the spectators who turned out on the day.
