There were some nearest the pin and putting competitions and it was great to see so many players and family members wait for the Prize-Giving.
This is a link to an album of photographs from the event including the prize-giving taken by Clair Barclay and June Lockhart.
Thanks to our volunteers and to Whitecraigs Golf Club for the courtesy of the course and their Ladies Vice-Captain Alison Campbell, for presenting the prizes. A final big thanks to our Junior Convener Clair Barclay for all her hard work in organising a very successful event and providing this report.
Jennifer Rankine (Haggs Castle) and Julie Wilson (Williamwood) qualified for this year’s Championship Final, having beaten Alyson McGinnigle (Williamwood) and Denise Cowan (Ranfurly Castle) respectively in the semi-finals.
Julie started with a birdie at the first to go 1 up but Jennifer immediately hit back with an eagle at the second to square the match. The remainder of the first nine was very close with some near perfect golf and the match was all square at the turn (both players were -3 and -2 respectively).
Jennifer won holes 10 and 11 to go 2 up and with the next six holes being halved with scratch golf, Jennifer went on to win 2 and 1. Captain Sandra Littlejohn then pinned on the winners badge
Well done to both finalists for producing an excellent game and a big “thank you” to those who came out to spectate and support this year’s final.

“In calm conditions, local ladies Ranfurly Castle’s Morag Cunningham and Vicky Rennie (off 32 and 33 respectively) played the match in a very sporting manner, and it most certainly was a match of two halves.
Vicky was 3 up at the turn, but Morag fought back to win the next three holes in a row. Holes were fairly even after that until Morag won the 17th, to go 1 up, and held on to halve the 18th and win the match. NB: At the 15th, Morag’s tee shot hit the cliff and returned to the back of the tee!!! Report by – June Lockhart (Past Captain RLCGA)
The postponed RLCGA County Championship took place over a very windswept Ranfurly Castle today.
It was a very much reduced field due to various other events being on but nearly 40 players still took part – Jennifer Rankine (Haggs Castle) was the leading qualifier with a 77 the only player to break 80 —
Well, our run of good weather for County competitions came to an end yesterday with very high winds and showers being the order of the day at East Renfrewshire GC. Was it something to do with it being Friday the 13th ? While there were quite a few call offs, requiring draw adjustments, 32 ladies braved the elements and considering the conditions, which saw trolley’s being blown over and balls getting chased off the green, there were some remarkable points accrued in what was our first Stableford competition.
(Number in brackets after name was the members Playing Handicap)
It is also nice to report that this is the Division 1 and 2’s Winners first season with the County. Joan (pictured on the left) reckons the win was down to her newly purchased County jacket, while for Heather (pictured on the right), it was beginners’ luck, this being her very first County competition.
Photos of another two placed winners above; Linda, watched by Clubhouse spectators, hit a spectacular long greenside bunker shot at the 18th to within a few inches of the pin – a shot any Pro would have been proud of.
For the 1st time this season the Playing Course Calculation (PCC) – (a bit like the old CSS) was up by +3 which shows how difficult it was and this is applied to the players handicap calculations in their record
This is a LINK to the full results, which you can also view in the Stableford competition on the App.
Thanks go to the ballot officials Marianne McKelvie and Fiona Armour, who were assisted by June Lockhart. Our thanks also go to East Renfrewshire for hosting the event, their bar and catering staff and the green staff, with many compliments regarding the excellent presentation of the course.
Today saw Jennifer Lynagh (Caldwell) and Orla Rooney (Cowglen) play the long awaited Final of the Junior Girls Handicap Match-play Competition.
The match was played over Erskine Golf Club (a neutral venue) in sunshine and dry conditions.
After a nervous start, both Jennifer and Orla played some impressive golf throughout the match and the game was very close until Jennifer won holes 7, 8 and 9 to go 3-up on the turn. Orla started well on the back 9, winning the 11th hole but Jennifer, making few mistakes, went on to win on the 15th hole.
A huge thanks go to Clair Barclay for all her hard work to make this happen, Pearl Orr for coming along to support, to Jennifer and Orla for their participation (and making my job as referee easy) and to Erskine Golf Club for giving us courtesy of the course. It should also be noted that some of the elderly gentlemen members playing the course commented (and maybe with a bit of envy?) on the high standard of golf played by both girls.
