It is hard to believe the 2021 golf season is just about to begin and we are still in lockdown albeit the future is looking promising.
We have had to review our golfing calendar for this year, and outlined below are the changes to date:
- The Spring Meeting at Elderslie GC on 26nd April has been CANCELLED. As this is the first day of clubhouses opening it was not possible for the Club to host our competition at such an early stage. Our thanks go to Elderslie GC for all their efforts to try and accommodate us during these difficult times and we look forward to returning there in the future.
- The County Championship at Ranfurly Castle GC (5th-7th May) will be RE-SCHEDULED for later in the year. We are currently in dialogue with Ranfurly Castle GC and will confirm the revised dates as soon as possible. Apologise to all those working ladies who have secured holidays for this event but, hopefully, they will all agree it is better to have the event later in the season than cancel for yet another year.
- The County Foursomes will take place at Bonnyton GC on Thursday, 27th MAY (please note the date change). All being well, the Inter-County Foursomes will be played at East Kilbride GC on Tuesday 1st June 2021 so a quick turn-around for this year’s qualifiers. The Commonwealth Spoons will be played at Dullatur GC on 30th August 2021.
As a result of the Spring Meeting being cancelled and the County Championship being re-scheduled until later in the season, sadly, it will not be possible to play for the Challenge Bowl (also known as the Rosebowl) yet again this year. It is normally the best net aggregate scores from these two competitions that determine the 8 qualifiers for this knock-out match play competition. Given our first singles strokeplay competition will not be until 29th June it will not give us enough time to determine qualifiers and get the matches played.
The County Jamboree (14th-16th June) will hopefully go ahead this year but probably in a different format. This will be finalised at a West of Scotland meeting on 21st April 2021. Dumbarton and Argyll are hosting the event and the venue is Cardross GC. It is unlikely that caddies and spectators will be allowed but this will be confirmed after our meeting next month.
It is hoped that these will be the only changes to our golfing calendar for 2021 and members are thanked once again for their patience, understanding and support during these strange times.
